"Coyote vs. Acme" Gives Wile E. Coyote His Own Looney Tunes Movie
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Wile E. Coyote has been chasing the Road Runner in the Looney Tunes
cartoons since 1948, but now he's turning his attention to a new
target.

According to Deadline, siblings and creative partners, Jon and Josh
Silberman, are writing "Coyote vs. Acme". The Silberman brothers
previously wrote for "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia",
"Bordertown", and "Deadbeat", before landing their own CBS series,
"Living Biblically". A director hasn't been chosen yet, and it's
currently unknown if "Coyote vs. Acme" will be fully animated or a
mixture of animation and live-action.

As teased by the title, the film will feature Wile E. Coyote
stepping aside from his lifelong pursuit of the Roadrunner to get
his revenge on Acme. Within the various Wile E. Coyote and
Roadrunner shorts, the Coyote's gadgets always came from Acme.
Inevitably, the gadgets have always failed, leaving the Coyote
humiliated and injured. Now, it's time for some payback.

Back in 2014, Steve Carell was attached to star in an Acme themed
movie that would take place within the world of the Looney Tunes.
That project doesn't appear to be going forward, but Carell would
probably still be a very funny foil for the Coyote. None of the
Looney Tunes have had their own film since Joe Dante's "Looney
Tunes: Back in Action" in 2003. Warner Bros. has reportedly been
working on a Space Jam sequel for years, but that's another
project that has yet to materialize.

Assuming that "Coyote vs. Acme" makes it out of development, the
next question is simple: should the Coyote speak? Wile E. Coyote
rarely had any vocalizations when he was with the Road Runner.
However, he was extremely loquacious and eloquent when paired with
other Looney Tunes characters.

Suuuper Genius!

I was pleased to see Porky & Daffy (in manic mode) behind the Warners shield
in the recent Teen Titans movie. The Looney Tunes characters are pretty
valuable properties to get the silent treatment they have been getting
recently.

That said, I'm not sure how Wile E vs Acme would play out. Wile E's charm
is that *nothing* ever goes right for him. That's fine against the
Road Runner and Bugs, but presumably Acme is a real bottom feeding company
so we would want him to win, but if he wins he's not Wile E...

Technically Acme's products all work ... it's just Wile E Coyote either
uses them incorrectly, or the landscape works against him (like using a
jetpack straight up into and overhanging ledge), or Roadrunner is
simply too intelligent to fall for it.

I'm not getting the concept of "getting revenge on a company." Is this
going to take place in the desert with Wile E. all by himself or is he
going to invade their headquarters.

It's American ... he'll obviously sue them, so the whole thing will
take place in a courtroom. ;-)

They could /try/ expanding the old Golden Jubilee 24 Karat Collection
to two hours per program with material similar in quality to that on
the VHS tapes. Oh, and using the original 1.37:1 (well, 4:3) aspect
ratio, with none of the nonsense about "how it was shown in theatres"
to mar the product.

The older Roadrunner cartoons included a sequence of episodes
featuring a large catapult. An ACME product, of course.

This catapult failed in every way imaginable. It dropped rocks
wherever Wiley was standing; when that was impossible, it flipped over
on top of him.

At the end of the sequence, the Awful Truth was revealed: a small
manufacturer's mark (a metal plate attached to the device with nails):

A Product of ACME Company
A Division of Roadrunner Enterprises

That explains a lot!
